Gippsland Licensed Surveyors is an established, family-owned business located in Warragul, Victoria. The business provides consultancy to both the private and public sectors.
The business was established in Warragul in 1981 by Mr Christopher Morris and later joined in 2014 by Principal Surveyor, Jonathan Neilson. Both Christopher and Jonathan are Registered Licensed Surveyors.
Gippsland Licensed Surveyors (GLS) prides itself on providing a professional, personalised and reliable service which is largely focused within the Gippsland region.

chevron_right GLS boasts one Licensed Surveyor and a Graduate Surveyor in the late stages of a Professional Training Agreement to become Licensed.
chevron_right Jonathan Neilson LS has extensive experienced working throughout all of the Gippsland region and Victorian High Country.
chevron_right All staff have been trained to complete jobs from field to finish, including computations and CAD within the limitations of their experience.
chevron_right Jonathan Neilson LS has had significant exposure working on Crown Surveys within the Victorian High Country under supervision. Jonathan has also had extensive experience dealing with Crown Surveys associated with significant projects within the electricity industry, including the diversion of the Morwell River within the Hazelwood Open Cut.
chevron_right Topographic and Feature Surveys:
chevron_right Within our team we have extensive experience in road, rail, greenfields, and brownfields for both topographical and feature surveys.
chevron_right Over the years key team members have delivered projects for the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) to DTP field and CAD standards within DTP CAD environments such as Bentley MicroStation and InRoads.
chevron_right In addition to DTP works our team has experience in working on projects for Major Roads Projects Victoria to deliver large scale topographical/feature surveys.
chevron_right On smaller scales we have worked with local Councils and water Authorities to deliver on feature survey project needs. These can range from a simple site feature survey of existing conditions for building developments to larger road intersection surveys to help plan for road upgrades.
chevron_right All of our feature survey is carried out to the DTP standards as listed in the VicRoads document “LIS-2001 Engineering Surveys” to ensure good outcomes.
chevron_right Terrestrial Scanning Surveys:
chevron_right Within our team we have extensive experience in terrestrial scanning using Leica P40 scanners and accompanying software to register, compare and extract information that the project requires; our team’s experience dates back to 2016.
chevron_right Key team members have extensive experience on large scanning projects within the mining and power station industry. This includes the scanning of all 21 floors of a boiler unit within a local power station that consisted of over 700 individual scans all registered together into one overall point cloud.
chevron_right Team members have also undertaken terrestrial scanning for road projects. These have included scanning projects for road intersections and sections of roads. These team members have been able to provide point clouds and extracted features and points within traditional CAD files and hardcopy plans.
chevron_right Drone/RPAS Surveys:
chevron_right Gippsland Licensed Surveyors have within their team fully CASA accredited drone operators. GLS has been operating survey quality drones since July 2020 on a range of projects.
chevron_right We have been able to deliver on drone projects needs that include high resolution ortho mosaic imagery and extracted point cloud data.
chevron_right Drone surveys have supported works for Planning Permits, site conditions and surface details for Application Permits on mining and quarry projects.
chevron_right Control Surveys:
chevron_right GLS have within their team extensive experience in regional control surveys. This includes works on the Latrobe Valley Regional surveillance monitoring and power station control networks.
chevron_right Installation/maintenance of survey marks:
chevron_right Gippsland Licensed Surveyors regularly complete monitoring surveys across multiple high-value sites, including dams and quarries, for both private and government organisations. On such jobs, the work involves the installation of survey marks, monitoring/maintenance of existing survey marks, and replacement of survey marks, as required.
chevron_right Survey Assessment Reports:
chevron_right GLS is experienced in providing and following instructions of Survey Assessment Reports, to identify key elements & issues relating to survey and deliverable requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, legislative and planning requirements, and liaising with stakeholders on proposed land dealings. Direct experience has involved following instructions of Survey Assessment Reports provided by the Office of Surveyor General, as well as experience in drafting similar reports for local & State government authorities, notably VicRoads.
chevron_right Drafting of Crown Plans:
chevron_right GLS has significant experience based on VHC work, and works associated within the Power Industry. Jonathan Neilson has vast experience drafting Crown Plans within the Victorian High Country and Latrobe Valley – two areas that traditionally have a long history with State-owned assets.
chevron_right GLS has undertaken numerous Crown Plan drafting work this year.
chevron_right Infrastructure Projects:
chevron_right GLS is the current provider to Energy Australia (Yallourn Mine) for their daily surveillance monitoring, as well as for the annual surveillance of their larger infrastructure and permanent equipment.
chevron_right GLS has been contracted to provide survey services for the Bunyip River Bridge DTP project.
chevron_right Previously, GLS has been heavily involved in the Hazelwood Mine Rehabilitation Project, and various Australian military site upgrades.
