How to get involved

This page is your gateway to navigating opportunities with NSW's energy transformation. We've designed it to support suppliers and buyers in local government areas (LGAs) located in renewable energy zones (REZs).

Here you'll find practical tools, insights and up-to-date information to help you engage with REZ projects and infrastructure initiatives.

Whether you're a local business looking to enter the supply chain or a project developer seeking trusted partners, this page aims to help foster meaningful connections, encourage participation, and drive collaboration across the clean energy sector.

About EnergyCo

The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory authority responsible for leading the delivery of REZs and other critical projects as part of the NSW Government's Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap (the Roadmap).

The Roadmap sets out how we are upgrading the grid to keep the lights on and put downward pressure on energy bills.

There are three key elements to our work.

  • We plan and design new network infrastructure for our renewable energy zones. This includes power lines, substations and other infrastructure to connect generation and storage projects to the grid.
  • We design and manage access schemes to select the best wind, solar and storage projects to connect to the grid in our renewable energy zones.
  • We work with communities to plan and shape our projects, to minimise impacts and to deliver benefits that will leave a positive legacy for the people who host electricity infrastructure.

We're also coordinating enabling infrastructure work like road upgrades across the state. This is necessary for us to deliver our projects efficiently and with the greatest value for our communities.

You can learn more about REZs on EnergyCo's website.

Renewable energy zones

Renewable energy zones (REZs) are geographic areas that group renewable energy generation such as wind and solar, storage like batteries and pumped hydro as well as high-voltage poles and wires. They will deliver energy to the homes, businesses and industries that need it.

REZs are a new way of connecting projects to the grid, and they also bring economic and employment benefits to local communities.

The map here outlines the locations of the first five REZs.

Industry collaboration

We're working with industry to find and deliver innovative solutions for this once-in-a-generation transformation.

We also collaborate with other Roadmap entities and parts of government to build new infrastructure in the right place at the right time.

Our Network Infrastructure Strategy for NSW outlines strategic plans for transmission infrastructure to support the state's energy goals. You can learn more about the strategy on our website.

We also design and manage access schemes to select the best wind, solar and storage projects to connect to the grid in our renewable energy zones. Access schemes determine how generation and storage projects connect to the network in a renewable energy zone. They support better outcomes for communities, consumers and project proponents.

EnergyCo's renewable energy zones and other projects

We coordinate several key projects to support the state's energy transition, including 5 REZs, 2 priority transmission projects and other enabling infrastructure.

Central-West Orana REZ

The first declared renewable energy zone in Australia, which involves a new transmission project and 10 generation and storage projects.

New England REZ

This will be NSW's largest renewable energy zone by capacity and scale, involving a new network infrastructure project to connect new generation and storage projects.

Learn more
South West REZ

This REZ will involve 2 new transmission projects delivered by Transgrid to connect 4 generation and storage projects.

Learn more
Hunter-Central Coast REZ

This will be the first REZ in Australia to upgrade existing distribution poles and wires to connect new generation and storage projects.

Learn more
Illawarra REZ

This REZ is in its early planning stages.

Learn more

Hunter Transmission Project

This critical project will carry electricity from inland REZs to homes and businesses across the state.

Learn more
Waratah Super Battery Project

This project will act as a 'shock absorber' for the NSW energy system in the event of power surges from events like lightning strikes.

Learn more
Enabling projects

We're delivering road upgrades and a logistics precinct to support the transport of equipment from the Port of Newcastle to REZs.
