Project Overview
Transgrid has contracted UGL Engineering Pty Ltd and CPB Contractors Pty Ltd (UGL-CPB JV) to deliver the western portion of the HumeLink project.
HumeLink West involves the expansion of the existing Wagga Wagga 500 kV substation, the design and construction of a new substation at Gugaa and connection works to the future Maragle 500 kV substation. The project also includes a new 500 kV double circuit transmission line to connect the substations at the Wondalga interface point with HumeLink East.
Initial activities include site investigations and engineering design, followed by enabling civil works primarily for temporary roads and facilities.
The HumeLink West team is now establishing procurement and resourcing relationships with local and regional suppliers to support a wide range of activities including:
- Geotech, survey and engineering design-related works
- Civil works and traffic management to install or upgrade approximately 300 kilometres of access tracks
- Works to establish 2 temporary 520 and 420-person worker accommodation facilities
- Establishment of 7 construction equipment laydown areas along the alignment
- Transport services for the delivery of steel, concrete and equipment
- Design, preparation and construction of a new substation at Gugaa
- Required connection works at the future Maragle substation
- Expansion of the existing Wagga Wagga substation
- Erection and stringing of approximately 360 transmission towers
- Rerouting of approximately 2 km of existing transmission line to the Wagga Wagga substation
- Required works at the Wondalga interface point.
The HumeLink project is committed to working with Transgrid to maximise the social and economic benefits of HumeLink West for local and regional communities and is establishing a range of initiatives that aim to drive local business, employment and trainee participation throughout project delivery.
