About the Northern Water project
Northern Water aims to provide a secure, climate resilient water source for industry located in South Australia's Upper Spencer Gulf and Far North. This will enable the growth of industries and key mining resources crucial for contributing to decarbonisation initiatives, sustainability and unlocking long term economic prosperity for South Australia.
The delivery of Northern Water will involve the construction and operation of a large-scale desalination plant at Mullaquana Station in the Upper Spencer Gulf and its connection to the Far North via approximately 400km of transfer pipeline. Mullaquana Station is located approximately 20km south of Whyalla.

Note: Commencing construction of Northern Water will rely on gaining project approvals and agreements. This includes:
- consultation with Traditional Owners, landholders, and the community
- comprehensive evaluations of environmental, engineering, and economic aspects of the Project
- commercial negotiations for Project delivery and water purchase
- statutory assessment
- market-tested proposal which will, in part, inform a Final Investment Decision (FID).
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport acknowledges that Traditional Owner consent will need to be obtained as part of the required approvals to enable construction of the project.

Lodging your interest in the project as a supplier through ICN
Suppliers and organisations interested in future opportunities in relation to the project are encouraged to lodge their interest through the Northern Water ICN Expression of Interest (NW ICN EOI). The NW ICN EOI will be the primary point of information to keep you informed on potential opportunities and work packages arising from this project.
Further information on opportunities arising from the Northern Water project will also be made available at industry briefings to be held as the project progresses.

How to register a Northern Water ICN Expression of Interest (NW ICN EOI)
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport values the interest you have shown towards the Northern Water project and the industry and community engagement process. We will share further project information through the ICN as it becomes available.
The NW ICN EOI will be used to gather industry and supply chain interest in the project. Information will also be used as follows:
- NW ICN EOI information will be made available to the project proponent.
- NW ICN EOI information may be made available to organisations eligible to progress to the Major Contract Procurement Expression of Interest phase.

Direct Supply of Goods and Services to Northern Water
Opportunities to supply goods and services directly to Northern Water will be listed at SA Tenders and Contracts.
The procurement process for the primary Project delivery contract has commenced.
An update was provided via SA Tenders and Contracts following the release date for the REOI.

Employment Opportunities
Employment opportunities to work directly for Northern Water, when available, are advertised at I WORK FOR SA.
Most employment opportunities from the Project will be provided by the successful delivery contractor. Northern Water will be working with stakeholders in the local area to identify opportunities to support workforce development and programs to enable the significant economic opportunities of the Project to benefit the local workers, businesses and communities of the Far North and Upper Spencer Gulf.
