BLUEFLOAT AUSTRALIA HOLDINGS PTY LTD
THE SOUTH PACIFIC OFFSHORE WIND PROJECT
About BlueFloat Energy
BlueFloat Energy is a global developer of offshore wind projects with a growing global portfolio in mature and new markets and fixed bottom and floating wind technologies. We are currently based in 10 geographies with over 33 GW with 31 projects in development.
We have a vision that offshore wind is a key enabling technology for countries such as Australia as the nation pivots from fossil fuels to a net zero future.
Our projects will accelerate decarbonisation by supporting new reliable and low-cost generation, providing renewable energy for industry, encouraging new industry and creating skilled and enduring jobs. For more information, visit https://www.bluefloat.com/
The South Pacific Offshore Wind Project has the capacity to generate up to 1.6 GW of electricity. It is located approximately 14 - 30 km off the Illawarra coast between Shellharbour and Stanwell Tops. It involves 105 floating wind turbines, 3 offshore substations and associated infrastructure. The Project will connect to the grid at Dapto, preferably using shared transmission infrastructure.
Within this area, the Project has 115 floating wind turbines, 3 offshore substations and associated infrastructure located in Commonwealth waters. The Project will connect to the grid at Tomago, preferably using shared transmission infrastructure.
Project Development Timeline
Building an offshore wind project is complex and typically takes 6 - 11 years to carry out site feasibility (to determine the suitability of a location), obtain the necessary approvals, and be constructed.
We are currently in the project lifecycle's feasibility, development and approvals stage. This includes required marine and landside environmental and cultural heritage surveys, ground investigations, technical design, and obtaining Commonwealth and State environmental and planning approvals. We expect this stage to last until around 2027, followed by two years of detailed design and Front End Engineering Design. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2028 and will last approximately two years. The Projects will be operational from 2030 onwards and include ongoing operations, monitoring and maintenance activities.
Opportunities
There are many opportunities for businesses, suppliers, and contractors to be involved with the Eastern Rise and South Pacific Offshore Wind Projects. BlueFloat Energy is committed to building local supply chains and supporting local businesses. We encourage all businesses to submit an expression of interest if you would like to be a part of these projects development, construction and/or operation.
