Overview

The North Queensland Stadium (NQS) project will deliver a 25,000 seat, best practice, purpose-built, regional stadium in time for the commencement of the 2020 NRL season at the project site located at 17-49 Saunders Street, Railway Estate, Townsville (Lot 1 on SP155392).  It is envisaged that this project will provide the catalyst needed to generate renewed interest and economic activity in and around the Townsville CBD.

This project will provide numerous benefits for Townsville and the region, including:

•       Expansion of North Queensland infrastructure
  
•       Job creation and flow-on economic benefits
  
•       Stimulation of urban renewal
  
•       Enhancement of North Queensland liveability
  
•       Raising the profile of the NQ region which is expected to result in:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - Investment in other parts of North Queensland

                    - Increasing the regions sporting and events capability

                    - Attraction of more domestic and international visitors to Townsville.

 The construction of the project will be delivered by Watpac who has been selected as the managing contractor for the NQS project utilising a design and construction management contract.  Watpac will progressively tender the trade packages listed on ICN utilising an Expression of Interest (EOI) process.

Contractors that express interest for the projects trade packages will be assessed against selection criteria and forwarded to Watpac for their consideration. The overall responsibility for the award of all trade packages rests solely with Watpac.

Contractors that have previously expressed interest on indicative trade packages against this project, prior to selection of Watpac as managing contractor, are requested to review their registration and re-submit an EOI for the relevant trade package/s which have recently been updated on the ICN Gateway to reflect the current NQS scope of works.   Contractors are to ensure that they meet Watpacs selection criteria provided on the ICN Gateway for each trade package.  

A key requirement of the project is compliance with the National Code of Practice for the Construction Industry and this applies to all contractors. Contractors expressing interest for the trade packages are encouraged to provide this evidence as a response to the EOI and answer all other EOI questions diligently.

Tendering and Performance of Building Work Code
