On 17 November 2015, Jemena was selected by the Northern Territory Government to construct and operate the Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP). The 622km NGP will connect gas fields in the Northern Territory with customers in the Eastern Gas Market. The NGP will run between Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory and Mt Isa in western Queensland. It will include 622km of high-pressure buried gas pipeline, gas compression facilities at each end as well as mid-line facilities such as cathodic protection stations and scraper stations.
The NGP Project includes route selection, survey, approvals, stakeholder engagement, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operation.
The design, approvals and construction planning works commenced in late 2015. This work will be finalised in 2017.
In February 2017 Jemena announced a resequencing of the construction activities on the NGP Project which saw the commencement of construction, targeted for April 2017, extended by a number of weeks.
Jemena has also adopted an alternate delivery strategy and will soon be tendering several packages for works and services for various construction phase activities.
Jemena has a list of all companies that have registered for work on the NGP to date, including those companies registered with McConnell Dowell previously engaged by Jemena to undertake construction activities. This information will be provided to construction contractors engaged by Jemena in the future.
Companies which have been shortlisted for work to date will not need to re-register with ICN unless they need to provide new or additional information.
The NGP Project remains on track for operations to commence in 2018.
Jemena encourages potential suppliers to the NGP Project to register an Expression of Interest for any opportunities as this will ensure the NGP Project team has visibility to as many local businesses as possible.
Jemena also encourages potential suppliers to regularly check this ICN Gateway page for additional scopes of work which may arise and for updated NGP Project information.
Individuals interested in working directly on the NGP Project should register their interest in jobs and training at www.ngpjobsandtraining.com.au
