The Tungkillo BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) site is located approximately 40 km east of Adelaide and 8.5 km east of Mount Torrens, on Peramangk Country within the Mid Murray Council local government area (LGA).

• Location: Electronet Road, Tungkillo (6 km south of Tungkillo township)
• Capacity: Up to 270 MW supplying up to 1,080 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage capacity.
• Connection to: the adjacent ElectraNet Tungkillo substation via a new 275 kV overhead cable.
• Transmission line: approximately 700 metres

Once complete, it will play an important role in supporting more renewables into the South Australian network and helping keep the system stable as supply and demand shift throughout the day.

Big battery projects like Tungkillo are becoming a key part of the energy system. They store energy when there's excess generation and release it when it's needed, helping smooth out variability from renewables and supporting overall grid reliability.

• Local road upgrades, foundations and construction platforms
• Electrical infrastructure including cabling, earthing, auxiliary systems and balance-of-plant
• A 275kV substation
• More than 700 metres of 275kV overhead transmission line connecting to the existing Tungkillo Substation.
