Lightsource bp is proposing to develop the Sandy Creek Solar Farm, a large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) electricity generation facility.
The Project is approximately 25 kilometres (km) south-west of the township of Dunedoo, in the Central West of New South Wales (NSW), within the Warrumbungle Shire Council and Dubbo Regional Council local government areas. The Project is within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWO REZ).

The main objective of the Project is to generate and dispatch energy from renewable sources, consistent with NSW Government policy for renewable energy and storage. The Project is seeking approval for a maximum export capacity of up 700 Megawatts (MWac), with a storage capacity of approximately 3,200 Megawatt hours (MWh). The 700 MWac export capacity will consist of a solar plant coupled with decentralised BESS.
Proposed project components include:
- a network of approximately 1.5 million PV panels and associated mounting infrastructure
- a decentralised BESS with 700 MW capacity and a storage duration of approximately 3,200 MWh.
- electrical collection system, substations and control rooms
- underground and aboveground DC and AC cables, including two high voltage transmission lines to the adjacent Elong-Elong energy hub (currently under construction by EnergyCo/ACEREZ)
- ancillary infrastructure, including a temporary workforce accommodation facility, operations and maintenance building, warehouse, parking facilities, access
- fencing, civil and foundation works, internal site roads, temporary construction compounds, access and egress points
- landscaping
- external road upgrade works
