Overview
Located on a 600-hectare site, in the Gympie region, the project is next to the Woolooga Powerlink Substation at Wide Bay Highway, Lower Wonga, and represents one of the most significant hybrid solar and storage developments currently underway in Australia. The integrated BESS system will provide around three hours of storage capacity, helping support grid stability and changing energy demand patterns. The project will connect into Powerlink's Woolooga substation without additional transmission lines required.
INTEC Energy Solutions (INTEC) has been selected as the EPC Contractor to lead the engineering, procurement and construction contract by Lightsource bp for the Lower Wonga Solar Farm. Works commenced in June 2026 and the project will provide in the order of 400 construction roles throughout the planned 27-month construction process.
