About The Project
The Muswellbrook Bypass Project is a major transport infrastructure initiative that will improve safety, freight efficiency, and network resilience along the New England Highway within the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales.
The New England Highway forms part of Australia's National Land Transport Network, providing a critical road freight and passenger transport link between Sydney, Newcastle, regional New South Wales, and Brisbane. The highway serves as a key transportation artery for the Hunter Valley and New England regions, supporting the movement of freight, agricultural products, mining-related traffic, and local and regional communities.
The existing route of the New England Highway through Muswellbrook town centre presents several operational, safety, and amenity challenges, with significant volumes of heavy vehicle traffic associated with the region's mining and freight industries, alongside local commuter, commercial, and community traffic.
The Muswellbrook Bypass Project will deliver a new approximately 9.3-kilometre bypass of the Muswellbrook town centre between Milpera Drive and Koolbury Flats Road. The proposed bypass will consist of a two-lane carriageway, with one lane in each direction, designed to accommodate current and future transport demands, while improving travel reliability and safety for regional and interstate traffic, and providing improved flood immunity.
Suppliers and contractors with experience in pavements, drainage, earthworks, and other civil construction works are encouraged to register their interest. The project will place a strong emphasis on local engagement, skill development, improved safety, enhanced quality, environmental management, and ongoing collaboration with regional businesses and communities.
Procurement activities are anticipated to be undertaken progressively throughout the project lifecycle. Expressions of Interest submitted through this registration process will assist the project team in identifying capable, local suppliers and subcontractors to ensure we maximise the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy within the region.
