Overview

The Northern Battery project is a proposed 270 MW battery energy storage system located at the former Northern Power Station precinct near Port Augusta, South Australia. The project is being developed to support the reliability, security and integration of renewable energy in the South Australian electricity network.

About the Project Owner:

AMPYR Australia is proposing to develop the Northern Battery project, a 270 MW battery energy storage system located near Port Augusta, South Australia. The project is proposed at the former Northern Power Station precinct and is intended to support energy reliability, system security and the integration of renewable energy in South Australia.

AMPYR Australia is targeting a split contracting model for delivery of the project. The battery equipment package is expected to be procured directly by AMPYR Australia. Connection works are being undertaken by ElectraNet. A preferred Balance of Plant contractor will be selected separately and will be responsible for procuring and managing remaining subcontracted works, goods and services required for the Balance of Plant scope.

About our Construction Contractor:

AMPYR Australia is currently finalising the selection of the Balance of Plant contractor and expects to announce the preferred party in August 2026. Although AMPYR Australia is the project owner, the Balance of Plant contractor will be primarily responsible for the selection and appointment of all subcontractors within the Balance of Plant scope.

Potential opportunities may include but not be limited to civil works, earthworks, concrete works, drainage, fencing, cranage and lifting services, transport and logistics, equipment hire, site facilities, security, surveying, waste management, traffic management, accommodation and catering, and other construction support services.

Businesses registering interest should provide details of their capability, experience, location, capacity, safety systems, insurances, licences, accreditations and any local or Aboriginal business participation credentials. Information submitted will be shared with the selected Balance of Plant contractor for consideration as project procurement progresses.
