The project owner for Carmody's Hill Wind Farm Project is Aula Energy Pty Ltd, on behalf of Georgetown Hills Renewable Energy Pty Ltd as trustee for the Georgetown Hills Renewable Energy Trust.
Aula Energy is developing the Carmody's Hill Wind Farm, a utility scale renewable energy project in South Australia's Mid North region. The project is located approximately 170 km north of Adelaide and 7 km east of Georgetown, on a 4,457-hectare site along the Campbell Range between Bundaleer Forest and Gulnare, on the traditional lands of the Nukunu People. The project will install 42 x 6.1 MW GE Vernova turbines with a total nameplate capacity of 256.2 MW, supported by an operations and maintenance facility, internal access roads, crane hardstands, underground collector network and a new 33/275 kV substation. A 12.8 km, 275 kV transmission line and the new Narridy Switching Station will connect the wind farm into ElectraNet's existing Davenport-Brinkworth 275 kV transmission line, enabling export of all generation to the National Electricity Market. The development approval also includes an option for a 118 MW, 2hour battery energy storage system to be delivered in a future phase.
The Carmody's Hill Wind Farm has been through a comprehensive approvals process. State Development Approval was granted in 2021 and a Commonwealth EPBC referral was determined to be "not a controlled action", meaning no further federal environmental assessment is required. A suite of management plans - including Construction Environmental Management Plan, Traffic Management Plan, Landscape and Revegetation Plan, Fire and Emergency Management Plan and Native Vegetation Clearing permits - support environmental compliance. The project has also secured Negotiated Generator Performance Standards and a Transmission Connection Agreement with ElectraNet, including use of a Designated Network Asset to connect to the transmission network. The project was awarded an agreement under the Australian Government's Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) Tender 4 for NEM generation and has reached Financial Close, supported by long-term offtake arrangements with Snowy Hydro.
Aula Energy will own the project through the Georgetown Hills Renewable Energy Trust special purpose vehicle, financed via a nonrecourse project finance facility. GE Vernova has been appointed as Turbine Supply & Installation (TSI) Contractor and DT Infrastructure as the Balance of Plant (BoP) Contractor, with ElectraNet delivering the grid connection works at Narridy. Construction will commence in early 2026. The construction program is approximately 32 months, with first power and commercial operations targeted for late 2028. The project will create an estimated 250-300 jobs during peak construction and 5 direct and ~15 indirect roles during operations, with a strong focus on local employment and procurement. Aula Energy and its partners have placed strong emphasis on social licence and stakeholder engagement. The project team has worked with landholders, community groups and the Nukunu Wampa Thura Aboriginal Corporation over more than a decade, adjusting transmission routing, turbine layout and access arrangements in response to feedback. Overall, Carmody's Hill Wind Farm is a high quality, advanced project with strong wind resource, proximity to existing 275 kV infrastructure, robust approvals, and experienced delivery partners. It is expected to provide enough clean electricity for the equivalent of approximately 176,000 -195,000 Australian homes, contribute to South Australia's decarbonisation and renewable energy targets, and deliver enduring regional economic benefits.
