Iberdrola Australia is a leading renewable energy company with more than 20 years of operations in Australia. Formerly known as Infigen Energy, the company joined the global Iberdrola Group in 2020 and is now a vertically integrated leader in renewable energy.
Our Australian portfolio is more than 95 per cent renewable, comprising onshore wind farms, solar farms, gridscale batteries, faststart gas peaking plants, offshore wind and, as of November 2025, electricity networks.
In November 2025 Iberdrola Australia, through its Iberdrola Australia Networks business, expanded into the electricity networks sector following its appointment by VicGrid as development partner for the Victorian section of the Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector West (VNI West) transmission project. VNI West is a proposed 240-kilometre, 500 kilovolt doublecircuit transmission line connecting Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) in Victoria and New South Wales. VNI West is needed to maintain the reliability and security of electricity supply, as Australia's ageing coal-fired generators exit the market.
During the Project's development phase, Iberdrola Australia Networks will work closely with VicGrid, Victoria's transmission network planner, to progress design, procurement, project management and the Environment Effects Statement (EES) process for VNI West. VicGrid will continue to lead engagement with landholders, Traditional Owners and communities, and will remain the primary development phase point of contact for the project. All existing commitments will continue to be honoured, and Iberdrola Australia Networks is committed to collaborating with regional communities to ensure that the potential economic and social benefits associated with VNI West are fully realised.
Globally, Iberdrola is the world's largest producer of wind power by volume and one of the leading electricity utilities by market capitalisation. Over the past two decades, the group has invested more than E100 billion in renewable energy; it operates 62.8 GW of installed generation capacity, and 1.3 million kilometres of transmission and distribution worldwide.
Supply Chain Opportunities - VNI West Project
At Iberdrola Australia, partnering with local suppliers is central to creating longterm shared value: it is a commitment that underpins both Iberdrola Australia Networks and VicGrid's approach to the development of VNI West. We seek to actively engage suppliers across all stages of the project and welcome collaboration with rural and regional Victorian businesses and First Nations communities, to maximise supplychain benefits, support regional development, promote social procurement, and create local jobs.
Beyond Victoria, VNI West will generate opportunities across Australia's broader supply chain, strengthening regional economies and supporting the nation's transition to clean energy. Opportunities will be available across the development, construction and ongoing operations and maintenance phases of the project.
