The M5 Westbound Traffic Upgrade (between Moorebank Avenue and the Hume Highway) is a $380 million project jointly funded by the NSW and Federal governments. Seymour Whyte was awarded the design and construct contract for this 1.3 km upgrade, which includes a new three-lane bridge over the Georges River, with construction beginning in early 2026 and completion expected by late 2028.
The M5 Westbound Traffic Upgrade is a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic flow and connectivity in the region.
This project involves the construction of key components designed to enhance the efficiency and safety of the M5 Motorway and its surrounding areas. By addressing critical bottlenecks and upgrading essential infrastructure, the project will provide a smoother and more reliable travel experience for commuters and freight transport.
New Bridge Construction: A new three lane bridge over the Georges River and the Southern Sydney Freight Line, T2 and T5 railway lines, improving the connections between the M5 Motorway, Moorebank Avenue and the Hume Highway.
Entry Ramp Improvements: Addition of a new entry ramp to the Hume Highway and Modification of Existing M5 Entry and Exit Ramps.
Intersection Upgrade: Enhancement of the signalised intersection at Moorebank Avenue.
Shared User Path Upgrade: Improvement of the shared user path between Moorebank Avenue and the Hume Highway.
