GB Energy is an independent Australian energy company, with its head office located in Melbourne. Our team has a deep understanding of the Eastern Australian energy markets and considerable experience in developing major energy infrastructure projects.
The Golden Beach Energy Storage Project will initially produce natural gas from the Golden Beach Gas Field located in the Gippsland Basin, approximately 4 km offshore from the Ninety Mile Beach coastline in Victoria and close to the township of Golden Beach.
The Project will then transition to an underground gas storage facility, providing peak day supply to the east coast energy market.
The Project comprises two phases, the first being the production of approximately 40 petajoules of natural gas currently within the reservoir which will be processed at a new, stand-alone compression station on a greenfield site close to the Longford Gas plant. The Project will then transition to an underground offshore gas storage facility.
This phase will enable gas to be injected from the market at times of low demand (often in summer) and withdrawn again during periods of high demand (usually winter), providing deep storage and essential supply flexibility to the east coast energy market.
The gas storage facility will provide 375 TJ/day of withdrawal capacity to the market (around 1/3 of peak day demand in Victoria) and have a lifespan of around 40 years. The capacity of the facility has the potential to be expanded at a later stage if required.
The gas will be transported from the subsea wellheads via an underground pipeline to a separation, compression and dehydration facility located onshore, approximately 10km from the shore crossing, before connecting into the Victorian and NSW transmission pipeline systems at the Longford Gas Plant.
GB Energy is targeting first gas supply in 2028, before transitioning to a flexible storage facility in 2029.
