Alinta Energy is developing an energy hub at Reeves Plains, located about 50 minutes drive north of Adelaide. The Reeves Plains Energy Hub is a significant development aimed at enhancing South Australia's energy security and grid stability.
As Australia transitions to net zero, the energy hub will help provide reliable and stable supply into the grid.
Battery Energy Storage System
The battery system provides electricity storage capacity and will ensure a reliable supply. The project will be built in two stages:
- Stage 1: 250 MW battery with four hours of storage.
- Stage 2: Additional 250 MW battery with a further hours of storage capacity, totalling 500 MW of capacity.
The project has been designed to include approximately 388 battery modules and 174 inverters, housed in prefabricated outdoor enclosers. Additionally, there will be an underground 33kV electrical connection, four switch rooms, two step-up transformers, and a new substation. Other project elements include water storage, office and control room, vegetated site screening, as well as fencing and lighting.
Alinta Energy is targeting a commencement of construction for Stage 1 in late 2025.
