Overview
Fortescue is committed to achieving net-zero emissions across its mining, port, rail, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI), and mobile fleet operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia by 2030.
A key aspect of this commitment is the replacement of its Diesel Electric Locomotive (DEL) fleet with Battery Electric Locomotives (BELs).
The Rail Decarbonisation Infrastructure Project will include the installation of Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) and traction substations along parts of the rail network to supply green power to the BEL fleet.
To support this transition and future operations, the project also involves developing new maintenance and provisioning facilities, as well as upgrading existing infrastructure such as tracks, stabling, and signaling.
