Overview

Energy Queensland is Australia's largest, wholly government-owned electricity company. It operates through several key subsidiaries, including Energex and Ergon Energy Network, which handle electricity distribution, and Ergon Energy Retail, which serves as the regional retailer. Additionally, Yurika provides integrated energy solutions across Australia.

The company is committed to supporting the renewable energy transition and invests in new technologies to strengthen its future capabilities. With over 9,300 employees, Energy Queensland services around 2.4 million connected customers and 772,000 retail customers.

Energy Queensland is also a signatory to the Energy Charter, which aims to improve customer outcomes and ensure that the energy sector works in the best interest of its customers.

Energy Queensland, through Ergon Energy, plans to undertake two decarbonisation projects with infrastructure upgrades on Horn and Thursday Island (Project One) and in the Northern Peninsula Area (NPA - Bamaga - Project Two). These projects are part of a larger effort to move remote communities from diesel to renewable energy. It includes upgrading existing infrastructure and adding renewable solutions like solar panels, battery storage and for the Horn and Thursday Island project there will be the addition of wind turbines and undersea cables.

Project One - The renewable energy project on Thursday Island, known as Waiben, is located in the Torres Strait Islands of Queensland, Australia. It lies approximately 39 kilometres north of Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland.

Project Two - The renewable energy project in the NPA, is located at Bamaga Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland.
