BHP OLYMPIC DAM CORPORATION PTY LTD
At present studies are ongoing into an expansion of BHP's existing copper refining facilities at Olympic Dam to construct a two-stage smelter and associated refinery complex.
The proposed Smelter & Refinery Expansion (SRE) project will enable BHP to process significantly more concentrate from across its Copper SA operations. The scope will include copper concentrate import and blending facilities, additional smelting capacity, additional refining capacity and additional non-process infrastructure to support the expansion program.
Detailed engineering, manufacture, supply, construction & commissioning support, quality assurance and process guarantee for a silver refining cell system. The cell package is expected to include:
- Moebius cell system;
- Transformer rectifier:
- Drive system for scraper trolley operation;
- Busbar system;
- Silver crystals recovery system;
- Silver electrolyte cooling system;
- pH control system.
The cell package should be a modular system allowing expansion or reduction in the number of cells.

The connection point and size of STATCOM are to be confirmed but at this stage are envisaged to be:
- Metering point for control of the STATCOM (or SVC) to be at the 275kV bus.
- Separate supply by others, Step down transformer (Included in a separate EOI)
- Proposed step down 275kV/xxkV where xxkV is the STATCOM (or SVC) voltage is to be provided by a separate EOI. Step down transformer rated to 140MVA (To be confirmed).
- STATCOM voltage to be highest commercially available system without need for further step down transformers.
- Rating of overall STATCOM currently 80MVAr (To be confirmed), with the intent to be duplicated in the future.
- STATCOM control and protection to be able to run autonomously without user interaction.
Metering point for control of the Static PFC to be at the 132kV bus.
- Rating of the proposed Static PFC is two (2) off 20MVAr (To be confirmed) capacitor banks with reactors, with the intent to be duplicated in the future.
- Static PFC control and protection to be able to run autonomously without user interaction, with control equipment located in the existing control room.
