GLADSTONE GREEN AMMONIA PROJECT
location_onQLD Australia
Overview

GGAP is a new ammonia synthesis plant and storage facility being developed by DNAP, Keppel and Marubeni to receive up to 50% of the ultimate green hydrogen offtake from the CQ-H2 project, where Keppel and Marubeni are also invested.

The green hydrogen will be produced by CQ-H2 on an adjacent site, using renewable energy and water to produce hydrogen through electrolysis.

The green ammonia product will be used for export, with around 15% reserved for domestic use.

The stage 1 investment of CQ-H2 is nominally linked to a concurrent investment in the new ammonia assets therefore there is a need to finalise the FEED and approvals processes for GGAP in order to align the project schedules and match the respective FIDs.

Proposed Project Components

Proposed project components include:

  • Ammonia synthesis plant
  • Ammonia storage tank
  • Hydrogen-receiving facilities
  • Air separation unit
  • Truck outloading and ship loading infrastructure
  • Refrigeration systems for the plant and storage tank
  • Gas compression systems for the plant and storage tank
  • Water treatment infrastructure
  • Electric power HV power connection and infrastructure
  • Natural gas connection and infrastructure
  • Installation and Construction Works - Ammonia Production Facility
  • Installation and Construction Works - Balance of Plant

Delivery Schedule

The FEED (Front End Engineering Design) for GGAP is being split between the Pre-FEED and FEED stages.

During 2024, GGAP is undertaking a Pre-FEED, which is expected to be completed by December 2024.

FEED will commence shortly after the completion of the Pre-FEED phase. This critical phase in development will firm up technical specifications and cost and underpin procurement, as well as mature the project to the Final Investment Decision (FID), targeted for late 2025.

Construction of the ammonia production facility is anticipated to take 36 months once FID is granted.

Engaging Local Suppliers

GGAP is committed to maximising opportunities for local and Indigenous businesses, people, and social enterprises to contribute to the delivery of our project. We encourage interested businesses to register their interest via Gateway by ICN.

Expressions of Interest

GGAP encourages local industries interested in supplying to the ammonia production facility only to register an expression of interest (EOI) through the ICN Gateway webpage.

Information on specific supply opportunities will be communicated on the ICN Gateway project page as it becomes available, with local industry able to register its interest against them.

Please ensure that:

  • Your company profile on the ICN Gateway is complete, up-to-date, and accurate, including electing to be notified via e-mail of supply opportunities
  • You register your interest as a full or partial-scope supplier (where applicable), and
  • You respond to all project and work package-specific questions.

It is important that businesses submitting an EOI are aware that their submission does not guarantee that they will progress further in the procurement process. Only companies that can demonstrate capability and capacity in accordance with Rio Tinto's standards will be invited to pre-qualify for specific opportunities.

FURTHER ASSISTANCE

GGAP strongly encourage local industries to contact ICN Queensland as their first step. This will significantly enhance their understanding of the EOI process.
