Overview
Alinta Energy and Parkwind are proposing to develop an initial 1GW+ fixed-foundation offshore wind farm in the Southern Ocean Region offshore wind zone. It could supply approximately 10% of Victoria's current electricity needs. The project is proposed to connect to the grid via the existing substation at Portland. The currently envisaged design which is subject to change includes:
* Offshore Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) nominally between 15-18MW megawatts capacity
* Offshore array cables and export cables
* Offshore substation platforms
* Onshore transmission cables
* Switchyard works
The project is being developed by leading energy investor, operator, retailer and developer Alinta Energy, and offshore wind energy company JERA-Parkwind.
Timing
The Spinifex project was announced in December 2021. It is currently in the feasibility and investigation phase of the project.
The development of an offshore wind farm, including feasibility, planning and approvals and construction generally takes around 6 - 10 years.
We hope to obtain the necessary legislative and regulatory approvals and make a financial investment decision by 2029.
The project would be operational for around 35 years.
