Project Details

Fortescue is committed to decarbonising its Australian iron ore operations in mining, port, rail, Non-process Infrastructure and mobile fleet in the Pilbara in Western Australia to achieve zero terrestrial emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 2030. Real zero refers to no fossil fuels and wherever possible, no offsets.

Scope Overview

Fortescue's decarbonisation plan includes the deployment of 2-3 GW of renewable (wind and solar) energy generation and substantial battery storage. The renewable power generated will be transmitted to Fortescue's electrical network via dedicated connections.

Indicative Timeline

Procurement activities are scheduled to commence Q2 of CY2023.

Construction is scheduled to commence Q1 CY2024.

The Project is planned to be completed by Q4 CY2030.

Local and Indigenous participation

In line with Fortescue's commitment to supporting local Western Australian communities, requirements relating to the engagement of local and First Nations vendors will be included in the selection criteria for the Project tendering opportunities.

The Pilbara Transmission Project (Project) aims to integrate Fortescue's iron ore mining and port operations in the Pilbara to a common 220kV network.

The creation of this 220kV network and these Stage 4 works will enable Fortescue's existing Solomon Mine power station to supply power to Fortescue's Eliwana Mine (Eliwana).
