Overview

Origin Energy Ltd is headquartered in Sydney, NSW andis an integrated energy company. is one of Australia's largest energy retailers, generators, gas suppliers and renewable energy companies.

Origin has 4.56 million customer accounts supplying electricity, gas, LPG and broadband services to customers across Australia and the Pacific.

With a 7,800 MW generation portfolio, including 1,515 MW owned and contracted renewables and storage, Origin's generation portfolio includes Australia's largest fleet of gas 'peaking' plants along with the Eraring power station, the country's largest and Origin's only coal fired generator which is slated for closure in mid-2025.

Origin also holds a 27.5% interest in Australia Pacific LNG project which continues to be a significant contributor to the east coast gas market.

Origin plays an important role in communities by working to provide reliable and affordable energy, employing more than 5,500 people across Australia and the Pacific, and supporting educational opportunities through the Origin Energy Foundation.

In Origin's first Climate Transition Action Plan released in 2022, the company set out a long-term ambition to achieve net zero Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2050 and is now working to progressively decarbonise the business and is investing in technologies to help its customers do the same.

To help achieve these targets, Origin plans to grow its renewables and storage capacity to 4 GW by 2030. Key recent developments that will help Origin deliver on these ambitions include the final investment decision to progress 460 MW stage 1 of Eraring battery, agreement to acquire acreage in the New England declared Renewable Energy Zone for potential wind development, continued progress on the Dapper and Yanco solar opportunities in NSW, growth of Origin's Virtual Power Plant (VPP) to 815MW under management (up from 258MW in 2022) and investments in the company's Future Fuels business including the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub.

Origin Energy Wind North Pty Ltd (ABN 35 667 417 718), a wholly owned subsidiary of Origin Energy Ltd, has also teamed up with the RES Group to pursue an offshore wind licence (with a potential generation capacity of 3GW) in the Gippsland region of Victoria, the country's first offshore wind zone.
