Sun Cable is developing a portfolio of projects to support the development of the AAPowerLink project and to build benefit to the Territory:

Middle Arm Battery

Sun Cable is developing the Middle Arm Battery (MAB) project which is a utility scale battery, with an installed capacity of 50MW scalable to 200MW, that will provide network support and ancillary services to the Darwin-Katherine Integrated System (DKIS), and facilitate further integration of local utility scale solar farms. Initially, this will be a standalone project, though later it will connect to the broader AAPowerLink system. A connection application has been submitted to Power and Water Corporation with modelling of the system integration advancing.

Solar Array Assembly Facility

5B is one of Sun Cable's technology partners, which shares a vision of developing technology through innovation to rapidly scale solar PV generation. The partnership is focused on the MAVERICK system, a prefabricated solar array technology designed by 5B which is space-efficient for transport and it is conducive to automated factory assembly and rapid field deployment.

Sun Cable is working with 5B to customise the design of the MAVERICK to best suit the transport, deployment & generation needs of giga-scale solar farms like the AAPowerLink Solar Precinct. Utilising the MAVERICK system and automated production line engineering, we intend to establish the Solar Array Assembly Facility (Facility) at East Arm in Darwin. The Facility will potentially supply the AAPowerLink project.

The Facility, once fully operational, will benefit the Northern Territory through investment, jobs and a new long term industry. These ongoing operational activities have the potential to substantially scale up over time.
