About Inland Rail

Inland Rail is a fast freight line stretching approximately 1,600km that will connect Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Inland Rail will enhance our national freight and supply chain capabilities, connecting existing freight routes through rail, roads and ports, and supporting Australia's growth.

It will better link businesses, manufacturers and producers to national and global markets and generate opportunities for industries and regions during construction and beyond. Delivering Inland Rail will help us keep pace with the increasing freight demands of Australia's growing population.

Shifting more goods onto rail means faster, more reliable freight; safer, less congested roads; and fewer emissions.

Inland Rail Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of ARTC, is building Inland Rail on behalf of the Australian Government and all Australians, in partnership with communities.

About the Narwonah Material Distribution Centre

Inland Rail has identified a requirement for two material distribution centres to service the stockpiling and future installation of ballast, sleepers, rail turnouts and other materials along the Inland Rail alignment.

A 200-hectare site at Narwonah, near Narromine in north west New South Wales and adjacent to the existing Hunter Valley main line, is the location for the temporary southern material distribution centre.

On 7 December 2021, Australian owned contractor Martinus was appointed the preferred contractor to deliver the Narwonah Material Distribution Centre.

Narwonah Material Distribution Centre construction update

When fully constructed, the Narwonah facility will accommodate:

* Ballast stockpiles

* Concrete sleeper stockpiles and other precast concrete products

* Rail track stockpiles

* Sleeper and rail handling gantries

* Rail preparation and welding facilities

* Rollingstock provisioning and maintenance facilities

* General construction laydown and container storage areas.

Construction of the Narwonah facility is being delivered in stages.

Stage 1 works, which were completed in late 2023, involved earthworks to construct material haulage roads, drainage and the finished formation layer ready to construct the future stages

Stage 2 works, which start in 2024, will involve installing a new rail turnout from the existing Hunter Valley line into the MDC, constructing two rail tracks to receive and shunt sleeper trains, installing a sleeper handling gantry and gantry tracks to unload sleeper trains, and installation of foundations to stockpile concrete sleepers.

Future decisions by the Australian Government on the delivery of Inland Rail sections north of Narromine will be considered when the Government has more certainty on their full scope and cost.

This includes Inland Rail achieving the required environmental approvals and securing land required for the Inland Rail corridor.

Registration of Interest (ROI) opportunities

The Work Packages section contains indicative opportunities and may not be reflective of actual packages issued for tender pending assessment of market capability and project requirements.

Businesses interested in supplying to the project as subcontractors, suppliers or equipment providers are encouraged to register their interest against the applicable Work Package/s.

Registrants should note:

* A complete, up-to-date and accurate ICN Gateway company profile is required in order to register interest. Click here to create a company profile on ICN Gateway

* Incomplete registrations may not be considered. Information on how to create a company profile or submit a registration of interest on ICN Gateway is provided below (refer to User Guides available in the 'Project Documents' section)

* All ROIs are provided to Martinus for their information

* Martinus have no contractual or other legal obligation to registrants arising out of the ROI process with respect to the consideration, evaluation, acceptance or rejection of any registration of interest, or the failure to consider, evaluate or accept any registration of interest

* Services, programs and initiatives provided by ICN are designed to complement a company's existing sales, marketing and business development strategy and any ROI submitted should not be considered an alternative to these activities.

It is important that businesses registering interest in supplying to Inland Rail projects as subcontractors, suppliers and equipment providers are aware that their registration does not guarantee that they will progress further in any procurement processes.

Martinus have broad discretion to suspend, vary or terminate procurement processes, decline to consider or review any ROI or negotiate with and enter into a contract with any other party for the performance of a Works Package.

ICN Gateway company profile

Your ICN Gateway company profile and any registrations of interest you submit are used to assess your organisation's ability to complete projects.

Click here to create a new company profile or to login and amend your existing company profile.

Please ensure your business invests the time and energy required to represent itself in the most effective manner possible when completing and/or updating your company profile.

Martinus strongly encourages suppliers to contact ICN in the first instance to gain an understanding of the ROI process and development programs, such as their ICN Gateway Profile Improvement Workshops.

PROJECT
NSW AUSTRALIA

The Narrabri to North Star (N2NS) section comprises an upgrade to approximately 186km of track within the existing rail corridor and construction of approximately 2.3km of new rail corridor. The works are required to accommodate the operation of 1,800m-long double-stacked freight trains and will involve the modification of various structures

Inland Rail is transforming how everyday goods are moved around our vast country. It will complete the backbone of the national freight network by providing transit times of less than 24 hours for freight trains between Melbourne and Brisbane via regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

The Beveridge to Albury section of Inland Rail will upgrade 305km of existing rail corridor between metropolitan Melbourne and the Victoria-NSW border at Albury-Wodonga.

Due to its scale and complexity, this project is broken into two stages:

  • Stage One: Beveridge to Albury
  • Stage Two: Metropolitan Melbourne

Works in the Albury to Illabo and Stockinbingal to Parkes sections involve extensive enhancements to specific sites across the 355km of existing track running from Albury to Parkes.

The Illabo to Stockinbingal (I2S) section of Inland Rail involves construction of approximately 39km of new single track between Illabo and Stockinbingal. The route will bypass the townships of Cootamundra and Bethungra and the winding, steep section of track known as the Bethungra Spiral on the Main South line; opening up a more efficient way to transport freight through the area. It also includes upgrading approximately 3km of existing track along this section.
