Beca have a dedicated Defence team currently servicing the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Defence Capability Acquisition Sustainment Group (CASG) and Estate and Infrastructure Group (E&IG) and are backed by one of the largest engineering and professional services firms in the Asia-Pacific region.


Beca's Defence and National Security business has extensive capabilities that support the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces and wider aerospace and space. This ranges from:

  • High integrity software and systems engineering services that underpin the sustainment support of the P-3K2 Orion Mission System and the SH-2G(I) Seasprite Flight and Mission systems
  • full fidelity flight simulator support services for the P-3K2, SH-2G(I) and A109 helicopter flight simulator devices
  • specialist engineering support to the RAN remediation programs
  • sustainment and seaworthiness condition assessment, assurance, organisational and process development work within RAN Fleet Command
  • capability development & acquisition support for Defence’s new surface fleet
  • land and joint electronic warfare projects
  • national airfields and critical maritime infrastructure maintenance, upgrades for CASG/Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)
  • assurance and asset assurance and policy frameworks for E&IG.

As such Beca are seeking to grow across a number of domains from involvement in the Space programs of both Australia and New Zealand as well as in the wider digital technology, simulation and Defence arenas.  Beca want to do this by collaborating and partnering with like minded businesses who value teamwork, are passionate in delivering quality results and who together want to support our Defence and National security interests.


Consequently Beca are seeking expressions of interest from Australian and New Zealand organisations. This may lead to one-on-one discussions with Beca to identify specific local workshare opportunities in the pursuit, delivery and support of Defence and National Security related opportunities.

  • Defence Infrastructure Panel
  • Space domain awareness
  • Estate and Infrastructure services
  • High integrity systems and software development including mission systems, ground systems, commercial space and UAS/UAV
  • Systems assurance and requirements management


Potential Opportunities 

Projects that are of direct interest to Beca and for which they are looking for partners include, but are not limited to:


  • Australian and New Zealand Space programs
  • Australian and New Zealand Information Domain capability projects, including Electronic Warfare and Information warfare
  • Australian defence project 799 - Enhanced Satellite ISR Capability
  • Australian FMSC – Future Maritime Surveillance Capability
  • New Zealand EMAC – Enhanced Maritime Awareness Capability (New Zealand)
  • Sustainment Support to aviation systems (i.e: P-8A / C130 J)
  • Australian Defence projects SEA 5000 Future Frigate (Hunter Class) and SEA 1000 Future Submarine (Attack Class)
  • Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)


Capability Areas

Beca is exploring options for Australian and New Zealand Industry Capability in the following capability areas:

  • Electronic Warfare (EW) including library development, EW modelling and simulation and EW programming
  • Naval engineering services including Integrated Logistics Services (ILS), marine engineering specialists, weapons engineering, combat and communications.
  • Software development for high integrity systems within aerospace and space
  • Flight simulator support, testing and certification including engineering sustainment services
  • Systems engineering capabilities including Verification and Validation (V&V), systems integration and high integrity systems support for aerospace, naval and space systems
  • Generation and maintenance of Common Operating Picture systems
  • Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) including operational employment, integration within systems of systems, and use as sensor platforms for environmental change detection.
  • Simulation including application of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technology.


In terms of industrial capabilities, Beca is seeking expressions of interest from companies with any of the capabilities outlined below. 


Capabilities are grouped using the Defence Support Services (DSS) panel skill definitions which are further expanded in the EOI response document. Membership of the DSS panel is NOT required/essential and have been used as they are a known standard used for supporting the ADF. The core capability areas are:

  4. Commercial Services
  5. Corporate Performance Services
  6. Authoring and Writing Services

Beca are also looking for potential partners working in the area of R&D around technologies and their application in the Defence and National Security domain:

  2. Real time and near real time Situational Awareness
  3. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications
  4. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
  5. AR and VR applications
  6. Electronic and Information Warfare
  7. Simulation and modelling
