Project Details

McConnell Dowell has been shortlisted for the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage of the Darwin Ship Lift Project.

The Darwin Ship Lift project comprises of a 26m wide, 103m long and 6m deep ship lift facility with a 5,000-tonne capacity. The ship lift will enable the maintenance and servicing of Defence and Australian Border Force vessels, along with commercial and private vessels, including from the oil, gas and marine industries. The project will also consist of a common user facility, numerous wet berths and additional hardstand area for ship repair and maintenance works.

McConnell Dowell is one of Australia’s foremost construction companies with an enviable reputation for innovation and the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects, particularly with complex marine elements. McConnell Dowell has a history of successfully performing projects in the Northern Territory, having recently delivered the Northern Gas Pipeline Project from the NT to Mt Isa in partnership with Jemena; and recently commencing works on the HMAS Coonawarra Marine Upgrade Project at the Larrakeyah Barracks in Darwin. Further to this, McConnell Dowell’s capabilities to undertake the project are well-represented by the successful completion of the South Australian Common User Facility, the most recent Ship Lifter to be constructed in Australia.

The company is committed to engaging and maximising the contribution of local subcontractors and suppliers in the delivery of our Projects. Our Northern Australia office acknowledges the drive and commitment of the Northern Territory Government to increase local industry and Indigenous participation by engaging local NT businesses into our own supply chain as much as possible. The company believe in supporting local enterprises and buying local to keep the local NT economy growing through the design and construction phases, recognising the indirect local economic benefits that are associated with continued and active participation in the local supply chain.

McConnell Dowell look forward to the opportunity to work with and form meaningful partnerships with local businesses in the Darwin region, and encourage all interested parties to get in contact through the ICN.

The Code for the Tendering and Performance of Building Work 2016 (“Building Code”) will be applicable to the project.
