Project Details

The Shiploader and Berth Replacement project is a brownfields project located within the lease boundaries of the existing Hay Point Coal Terminal at the port of Hay Point, approximately 38 kilometres south of Mackay, Central Queensland. The project includes the disassembly and replacement of one of the existing Shiploaders and Berths to improve materials handling throughput and provide cyclonic wave immunity to terminal operations.

THE PROJECT SCOPE ENTAILS:

  • Off-site fabrication of new berth topside modules, including decking, ship loader rail beams, and conveyor galleries and sections;
  • Off-site fabrication of the new ship loader (SL2A)
  • On-site preparatory works including modification of the existing concrete caisson berth foundations;
  • On-site disassembly and removal of the existing berth and ship loader;
  • On-site installation of the new berth modules, tie-in and commissioning;
  • On-site modification of the head-end of the existing approach caisson, and 57CP conveyor infrastructure to tie-in to the new berth;
  • Delivery, installation and commissioning of the new ship loader (SL2A)

MCCONNELL DOWELL

McConnell Dowell has entered into an early contractor services contract with BMA and is expecting to enter into a construction contract for the delivery of the Hay Point Coal Terminal Shiploader 2 and Berth 2 Replacement Project in November 2020. McConnell Dowell as primary contractor is responsible for all of the above listed project scope except the fabrication of the new shiploader (SL2A) to be performed by others.

DELIVERY SCHEDULE

The project is currently in Definition Phase Study (DPS) which requires development of a capital estimate and schedule that, subject to investment approval by BMA, would enable the Project to proceed into execution. This decision is expected in Q4,2020. Future procurement decisions are dependent on board approval.

If approved, the proposed execution schedule includes establishment of temporary facilities (first site activity) scheduled for end of Q3, 2021. The shutdown work associated with the shiploader and berth replacement infrastructure will commence in March 2022 with a duration of approximately 16 months.

EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

McConnell Dowell encourages local industry interested in supplying to the project to register an expression of interest (EOI) through the ICN Gateway webpage.

Information on specific supply opportunities will be communicated on the ICN Gateway project page as it becomes available, with local industry able to register its interest against specific packages.

Please ensure that:

  • Your company profile on the ICN Gateway is complete, up-to-date and accurate including electing to be notified via e-mail of supply opportunities
  • You register your interest as a full or partial scope supplier (where applicable), and
  • You respond to all project and work package-specific questions.

It is important that businesses submitting an EOI are aware that their submission does not guarantee that they will progress further in the procurement process. Only companies that can demonstrate capability and capacity in accordance with McConnell Dowell and BMA’s standards will be invited to pre-qualify for specific opportunities.

FURTHER ASSISTANCE

McConnell Dowell  strongly encourage local industry to contact the ICN Queensland in the first instance to improve their understanding of the EOI process.
