Boeing Defence Australia

For more than 90 years, Boeing and its heritage companies have been part of the fabric of Australia’s aerospace industry. Today, Boeing Defence Australia is an integral part of the region's defence industry and brings the ‘Best of Boeing’ products and services to support the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Their expertise, and what sets them apart, is broad capabilities across the lifecycle of defence programs combined with an enduring commitment to a strong Australian defence industry. They partner with the customer and industry to provide best-for-capability defence solutions including:

  • Design and delivery of some of the world’s most advanced communication infrastructure and systems
  • Design, development and sustainment of integrated tactical and strategic mission systems
  • Training and sustainment of more aircraft types than any other contractor to optimise fleet reliability, availability and capability.

In 2018, Boeing spent more than $192 million with 675 Australian suppliers who helped them contribute to the development of sovereign capabilities that will grow Australia’s defence industry.

Boeing Space and Satellite Communications Capability

Boeing has a long history of space-related projects in Australia. The company’s defence programs include the Boeing-built Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) and IS-22 satellites used by the Australian Defence Force and the Currawong Battlespace Communications System, which includes Australian-developed satellite terminals for accessing the WGS network.

Boeing Defence Australia is also developing innovative approaches to astronaut training, spacecraft design and crew health that will be transitioned to the United States. Their research partnerships span CSIRO, the Air Force Research Laboratory, Defence Science and Technology Group, University of Queensland and Adelaide-based Myriota to help develop technology that will build new jobs for Australia’s future.

Boeing's goal is to be a leader in Australia’s space industry just as they are globally. To achieve this, Boeing Australia will continue to make strategic research and development investments to support the Australian Space Agency, to grow Australia’s space industry and ensure the Australian Defence Force is equipped to expand its space-based and space-enabled capabilities.
