Project Details

The Department of Housing and Public Works is responsible for managing the design, procurement and construction of works associated with the project, in conjunction with QPAC and Arts Queensland.

The new minimum 1500 seat theatre will be designed by Blight Rayner + Snøhetta and constructed by Lendlease.

Drawing inspiration from the Brisbane River as an important meeting place for telling stories, the concept design respects the heritage listed Queensland Cultural Centre while creating a new place with its own identity.

Key features of the concept design include:

• Two new studio spaces located below street level visible from Russell Street and the main foyer.

• Transparent foyer spaces

• A single balcony auditorium delivering enhanced audience sight lines.

Design of the new theatre has been guided by the Conservation Management Plan commissioned by Arts Queensland and developed by heritage consultants in 2017.

It is anticipated early works construction will commence in 2020.

The venue is targeted for completion in late 2022.

The Managing Contractor Lendlease will soon call for expressions of interest (EOIs) in trade packages for the project.

Local industry interested in supplying to the project is strongly encouraged to establish a company profile (and capability statement) on the ICN Gateway via including setting notification preferences to receive alerts when EOIs are invited for relevant work packages.

Local industry already registered with ICN is also encouraged to review notification preferences to ensure alerts are received when EOIs are invited for relevant work packages.

Businesses submitting an EOI should be aware their submissions do not guarantee they will progress further in the procurement process. Only businesses that can demonstrate capability and capacity in accordance with standards will be invited to pre-qualify for specific opportunities.
