About Beach Energy Limited

Beach Energy is an ASX listed, oil and gas, exploration and production company headquartered in Adelaide, South Australia.

It has operated and non-operated, onshore and offshore, oil and gas production from five producing basins across Australia and New Zealand and is a key supplier to the Australian east coast gas market.

Beach’s asset portfolio includes ownership interests in strategic oil and gas infrastructure, such as the Moomba processing facility, as well as a suite of high potential exploration prospects. Beach is highly focused on maintaining the highest health, safety and environmental standards.

About the Project

The Otway Offshore Phase 5 project involves the further development of the Thylacine field and the potential development of the Artisan field, and comprises the following:

  • Tie-In of up to four (4) Subsea Wells to the existing Thylacine-A platform;
  • Potential tie-In of one (1) Subsea well to the Existing Otway Export Gas Pipeline.

The development will consist of procurement, fabrication and installation of flexible flowlines, subsea structures, electro-hydraulic umbilical systems and subsea control system upgrades on Thylacine-A Platform and Onshore Gas Plant.

Packages for this work will start being released on the ICN in Q4 2020 and will continue into 2021.

Contracts and Procurement

The contracts and procurement strategy for key goods and services is to competitively tender packages to companies with the capability, capacity and demonstrated experience in the Australian offshore Oil and Gas industry.

Tender packages are expected to commence Q2 FY 19.

Project design and execution will be done to Australian Statutory Laws and Regulations, and will be designed predominantly to International Codes and Standards with some specific Australian Standards.

Suppliers may be required to meet conditions for certain activities defined by Victorian Government legislation (e.g. Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act, Environmental protection Act) and Commonwealth Government legislation (e.g. Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act and Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act).

Individual standards requirements may vary between different scopes of work for the Otway Offshore Project and will be set out as part of the contracting strategy developed for each work package.

Indicative Project Timeline

First tender packages for key goods and services are expected to be issued to market Q2 FY 19 with works expected to commence Q3 FY 19.

Beach are currently developing the Otway Phase 5 subsea facilities.

The selected facilities consist of a flexible flowline system suitable for hydrocarbon operations.

This flowline system is complimented with rigid tie-in spools or short flexible jumpers.

As part of this development, Beach have identified the need for subsea unbonded flexible pipe, to tie-back these subsea facilities. These may include:

- 10inch Internal Diameter Main Production line 3.9km

- 6inch Internal Diameter Infield Production line 1.4km
- 8inch Internal Diameter Infield Production Line 7.9km [Optional]
- 6inch Jumpers 50-100m (5 off) [Optional]

These flowlines are to be fully qualified, designed, manufactured and delivered in accordance with API 17J Specification for Unbonded Flexible Pipeline.

The products will need to be delivered complete with Midline connections (as needed), end-fittings, bend stiffeners/limiters and other ancillaries.

The product needs to be designed for water-depths up to 150m and will have operating temperature between approximately -25C (temporary) and 90C. In addition, it shall be suitable for a Maximum Operating pressure of up to 22MPag.

- 4-slot Subsea Central Manifold: 1 off
- Subsea Valve Manifold: 1 off
- Pipeline End Manifolds: 3 off

All equipment will consist of Corrosion Resistant Alloys for all production wetted parts. The spools will connect with Vertical Diverless Connectors.

The above Manifolds will all have ROV operable valves and Vertical and Horizontal Connectors to connect the Rigid spools and Flexible Flowlines. All Manifold will have foundations, either integrated or as a separate lift. Some of the manifolds may have instrumentation.

The Subsea Valve Manifold will contain a Beach provided Subsea Control Module complete with ancillaries.
