Rio Tinto Iron Ore Projects (Western Australia)
In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Rio Tinto operates the world's largest integrated portfolio of iron ore assets with industry-leading margins. Rio Tinto is well positioned to benefit from continuing demand across China and the developing world. The premium product suite, including our flagship Pilbara blend, drives strong customer relationships and is supported by technical and commercial marketing expertise. The business continues to be a proud leader in automated mining technologies.
Pilbara operations include a world-class, integrated network of 16 iron ore mines, four port facilities, a 1,700 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure, are designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand, supported by our Operations Centre in Perth. We're considering new mines and introducing next generation technologies to deliver greater efficiency, lower production costs and improved health, safety and environmental performance.
Wherever Rio Tinto operates, it is strategically important that we have a secure, sustainable and internationally-competitive supply chain. Rio Tinto's core values of safety, teamwork, respect, integrity and excellence serve as a foundation of doing business the right way with customers and communities and our suppliers.
It is a Rio Tinto requirement that standards utilised are either Australian or internationally recognised equivalents, unless otherwise justified due to specific technological, commercial, intellectual property or similar requirements. All requests for proposal (RFP), tender and contract document references will stipulate any standards requirements. In certain circumstances, materials specifications in RFPs may be met by using either Australian or internationally recognised standards. Otherwise it is the project's intent that standards specified in RFPs do not seek to exclude Australian business from participating in Tier 1 supply opportunities.
The Rio Tinto Local Procurement Portal provides opportunities for local suppliers. For more information, visit http://ironoresupplier.riotinto.com
