Project Details
KEPCO proposes to develop the Bylong Coal Project, located approximately 55 km north-east of Mudgee and 53 km from Denman in New South Wales, Australia. The purpose is to extract, wash and export coal. The Bylong Coal Project proposes to supply 6.5 million tonnes (ROM) of thermal coal per annum to the export market. The mine will cover an area of approximately 3,000 ha and will include two open-cut mining areas and an underground mining area.
The mine is likely to employ up to 665 people during construction and maintain a workforce of approximately 290 people during operations.
The life of mine is expected to be approximately 25 years, with open-cut operations commencing around year 4 and operation of an underground mine commencing afterwards at around year 7. Coal will be transported from the Project site to the Port of Newcastle via rail, which will require the construction of a dedicated rail loop connecting to the existing Sandy Hollow-Gulgong Line.
