Ventia is currently tendering for the Rum Jungle Rehabilitation Stage 3 - Provision of Water Remediation and Pit Backfill Services.
The Rum Jungle Mine site is located approximately 105km south of Darwin and 6km north of Batchelor in the Northern Territory (NT).
The NT Government is working in partnership with the Australian Government and Traditional Owners to rehabilitate the former Rum Jungle Mine. The project will remove a major impediment to the site's grant to the Kungarakan and Warai people.
The rehabilitation plan for Rum Jungle will be delivered under stage 3 of the project.
Stage 3 is operating under a Federation Funding Agreement partnership with the Australian Government's Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources.
Major components of the rehabilitation plan include the following:
- deconstruction of the existing waste rock dumps
- installation of a waste rock dump footprint cover system
- management of contaminated soils and asbestos-containing materials
- main pit backfilling and reinstatement of the East Branch of the Finniss River
- construction of new waste rock storage facilities
- groundwater and surface water treatment
- ecological rehabilitation and revegetation.
Ventia is currently seeking Expressions of Interest from regional suppliers for goods and services to support the above scope from local businesses and NT based businesses, including Aboriginal Territorians and especially Kungarakan and Warai peoples.
