BESIX Watpac is the Managing Contractor on the proposed NCIS-8A HMAS Cairns project. HMAS Cairns is an existing Defence establishment located 3km from the City of Cairns.
The proposed works are within HMAS Cairns and on port land close to HMAS Cairns.
The existing Navy Wharf will be demolished and a new wharf will be built. Wharf services will be provided to the new wharf. Existing engineering services infrastructure including electrical supply and distribution, roads, stormwater and sewerage, will be extended or upgraded. A new Navy Cadet facility will be constructed off-base close to HMAS Cairns.
Summary of Works:
Element 1 - Replacement Navy Cadet Facilities
Element 5 - New Navy Wharf and demolition of existing wharf
Element 7 - Generator Plinth and Fender Store
Element 10 - Explosive Ordnance Loading Buoy (Trinity Inlet in proximity to Seelee Creek)
Element 11 - Site Infrastructure to support the Maritime Elements and future delivery of works
The works are likely to commence in March 2023 and are scheduled for completion December 2025
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST (EOI)
BESIX Watpac encourages local industry interested in supplying to the project to provide an Expression of interest (EOI) through the ICN Gateway.
Information on specific supply opportunities will be communicated on the ICN Gateway project page as it becomes available, with local industry able to register its interest against them.
Please ensure that:
- Your company profile on the ICN Gateway is complete, up-to-date and accurate including electing to be notified via e-mail of supply opportunities
- You register your interest as a full or partial scope supplier (where applicable), and
- You respond to all project and work package-specific questions.
It is important that businesses submitting an EOI are aware that their submission does not guarantee that they will progress further in the procurement process. Only companies that can demonstrate capability and capacity in accordance with BESIX Watpac's standards will be invited to pre-qualify for specific opportunities.

An industry briefing session for this project will be held on Tuesday 25th October 2022, 3pm-4.30pm
