Overview

EnergyAustralia, owned by CLP Group has committed to building a four-hour utility scale battery of 350MW capacity.

Situated at EnergyAustralia's Jeeralang gas-fired power station in Victoria's Latrobe Valley, the Wooreen Energy Storage System (formerly named Jeeralang Battery) will provide cover for more than 230,000 Victorian households for four hours before being recharged.

Since the project's announcement, EnergyAustralia has been undertaking technical and environmental studies and closely engaging the local community including LaTrobe City Council and the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC).

The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) project consists of:

The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) units and the associated balance of plant up to 33kV cable terminal point at the 33kV cable termination structure. This also includes battery storage containers, power converter systems, step up transformers, control and protection system, SCADA system, ancillary equipment and 33kV cables up to the 33 kV cable termination structure at the LV side of new 220/33 kV transformers.

In addition, the scope includes a new 220/33kV substation, adjacent to Jeeralang Terminal Station (JLTS).

Long Term Service Agreement (LTSA): The selected EPC Contractor or Technology Provider to the EPC contractor shall provide maintenance services via a LTSA.

EnergyAustralia will name the EPC partner in the first quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, the project's planning and environmental investigations will continue with a planning application expected to be made to the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning in the first quarter of 2022.
