STAR OF THE SOUTH WIND FARM PTY LTD
Star of the South is in the feasibility and development phase.
An exclusive feasibility licence for a 586 km2 area within the Gippsland declared offshore wind area was granted in May 2024.
Early feasibility studies were progressed between 2019-2024 under a previous Exploration Licence. Completed wind, marine environment and seabed studies confirm that the location is suitable and technically feasible.
Star of the South aims to start generating electricity before 2030 to meet the Victorian offshore wind targets of 2GW by 2032, noting that construction can begin only after all approvals and final investment are confirmed.
The project's lifespan is anticipated to be around 30 years.
Potential opportunities
Offshore wind farms are a proven driver for jobs and contract opportunities and the Star of the South presents a unique opportunity to grow the next generation capability for the Victorian renewable sector.

- Supply vessel to complete soil sampling and in-situ testing with maximum depth of 70m below seafloor.
- Geotechnical and Geo-Environmental laboratory testing, undertaken by organisations with applicable NATA accreditation.
- Assistance with obtaining permits and approvals from relevant authorities.

Below is a high-level summary of the preliminary geotechnical service requirements:
- Geotechnical investigation and sampling work in accordance with AS1726 - 2017. Scope would include borehole drilling on selected sites and test pitting at nominated points (approximately 500 m spacings) along the 80 km alignment.
- Electrical resistivity testing undertaken in accordance with ASTM G57-95a and IEEE Standard 80/81.
- In-situ thermal resistivity testing, undertaken in accordance with IEEE 442-2017.
- Laboratory thermal resistivity testing using the 4-points dry-out curve method, undertaken in accordance ASTM Standard D5334.
- Geotechnical laboratory testing, undertaken by organisations with applicable NATA accreditation.
- Preliminary contamination assessment, undertaken in accordance with relevant local standards.
- Optional Feature Survey along the 80km alignment to be considered as the project develops.
