Future Submarine Programme
Naval Group (formerly DCNS) was announced as Australia's international partner for the design and build of 12 Future Submarines in 2016. In the same year, the Government announced that Lockheed Martin Australia would be the Combat System Integrator for the program. The Future Submarine Program is currently in the Design phase.
Lockheed Martin Australia is running a number of competitive tenders for the various sub-system elements of the Combat System. One of these is the Optronics Visual Systems capability, comprising the optronic mast and camera system capabilities.
Optronic Visual Systems – Tender Phase Competition
Thales Australia is currently preparing its response to the Visual Systems tender. To understand the Australian industrial capability necessary to support the design, build, operation and sustainment of the Visual Systems, Thales Australia is seeking initial Expressions of Interest.
Thales Australia is committed to maximising opportunities for Australian industry involvement in its proposal and is seeking interest from industry to inform the design phase of the program. We are particularly interested in hearing from companies who possess system design capabilities on complex maritime and sub-surface projects in the following areas:
- Design of precision mechanical structures and components;
- Design of electronic systems, components and control mechanisms;
- Design of optical systems for use in the underwater environment;
- Design of underwater cabling and electrical harnesses.
Initial Expressions of Interest will stay open until 1st August 2018.
Thales Australia envisages that further and more detailed Expressions will be required in the event that it is selected for the sub-system by the Combat System Integrator.
