NorthConnex and M2 Integration Projects
Project Details
The Australian Government, NSW Government, Transurban and the M7 Westlink Shareholders (the Project Sponsors) are building an underground tolled motorway linking the M1 Pacific Motorway at Wahroonga to the Hills M2 Motorway at West Pennant Hills.
The $3 billion NorthConnex project consists of a construction budget of $2.65 billion in addition to land and project delivery costs. The project is funded through toll charges with a contribution from the NSW and Federal Government of up to $405 million each.
The project includes twin motorway tunnels around nine kilometres in length with a height clearance of 5.3 m and a speed limit of 80 km/h. Each tunnel will be built with long term capacity for three lanes, but will initially operate with two lanes and a breakdown lane in each direction.
When completed, NorthConnex will deliver significant benefits to local communities by easing congestion and removing around 5000 trucks daily from Pennant Hills Road. This will help improve safety, local air quality and reduce traffic noise.
Motorists will be able to travel from Newcastle to Melbourne without a single set of traffic lights, reducing travel times for motorists and delivering state and national freight efficiencies.
The motorway will provide opportunities to improve public transport travel times and services around Pennant Hills Road.
The project is being delivered by Lendlease Bouygues Joint Venture, which is responsible for all procurement and employment opportunities. Major work on the project started in 2016 and the project will open to traffic in late 2019.
The first stage of major work is tunnelling. Tunnelling involves the use of heavy machinery including roadheaders, rockbolting, shotcreting, earthwork equipment, gantry cranes and conveyors to remove the sandstone and shale from the project alignment.
Once tunnel excavation is complete, the project moves to the fit out phase, which involves installing the road pavement, lights, emergency response systems, surveillance, electrical cabling, signage and ventilation.
As part of NorthConnex, there is substantial civil work being carried out to ensure the tunnel is integrated with the local road network. Integration work along the Hills M2 Motorway is under way to allow the safe merge of traffic from the tunnel onto the Hills M2 Motorway via a new 3.5 kilometre westbound lane from Pennant Hills Road to the Windsor Road interchange.
The intersection of Pennant Hills Road and the Pacific Highway at Pearces Corner is also being widened to provide an additional northbound lane for motorists travelling to Hornsby.
The project is divided into three main categories civil and building work, tunneling and mechanical & electrical. The categories are broken down into works which will be self-performed (predominantly within the tunneling space) and various packages involving sub-contract (supply and install), supply (supply only, including hire of Plant & Equipment) and professional services Agreements.
As part of Lendlease Bouygues's commitment to the North Western Sydney economy and community, locally based contractors are encouraged to register their interest in upcoming opportunities for project work packages. It is recommended that companies register via the office that will service this project if successful.
For all work packages, registrants are required to submit all the following forms as part of the EOI:
- NCX503A Prequalification Questionnaires AND
- NCX503G Schedule 11 - Industrial Relations and Code Compliance
Please note that you will only need to complete these forms once, regardless of how many work packages you register for within this project.
Registrations that cannot be evaluated due to an incomplete EOI (such as requested forms not completed and / or uploaded) or electronically corrupt will not be considered.
All forms are available to download from the Project Documents section below (under Documents to be submitted with EOI). For more information please visit www.northconnex.com.au.
