Spring
Capability News

Welcome to the Spring edition of Capability News.

This quarter we bring news of our NT office’s collaboration with the Territory’s second largest employer, Halikos Construction, which will be listing all its projects on Gateway. This partnership will not only help Halikos grow its business, but also gives new suppliers the opportunity to pitch for work packages and keep money and jobs local.

Still in the Top End, more work packages are expected soon for the planned $472 million upgrade and redevelopment at Larrakeyah Barracks; and Darwin is set to be the location for the largest ship lift in Northern Australia, with ICN NT working with the project to identify and maximise local content in the construction phase.

Australia’s ship building industry received another boost with initial site works on the Osborne North shipbuilding project due to begin in the next few months. ICN SA worked with major project owner Laing O’Rourke in the tender phase and expressions of interest are now on Gateway.

In more defence news, ICN QLD is working closely with major project owner Rheinmetall on the construction of a $170 million Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Brisbane’s south west. The Queensland Government reports that 60 South East Queensland businesses have already won about 60 work packages, worth more than $100 million.

Staying in the sunshine state, Sunwater Limited is building a new water storage facility on the Fitzroy River to help meet future urban agricultural and industrial water demand in Rockhampton, Gladstone and the Capricorn Coast. Work packages are currently open on Gateway.

We also bring you a case study from B&R Enclosures, whose relationship with ICN has enabled them to strengthen their profile in the Defence industry and expand their business dramatically.

Further South, the small NSW Riverina town of Coleambally is putting itself on the sustainable energy map with a unique project to add value to the local ethanol plan. Reef Renewable Energy is relying on ICN NSW local knowledge to provide end-to-end solutions – from supplying raw materials to consuming the energy created.

ICN NSW consultants have also been busy in both the Hunter and Shoalhaven regions, working defence organisations to keep local businesses informed and educated about possible opportunities.

Meanwhile, ICN Victoria is helping head contractor Hickory Group promote local opportunities for the $125 million Holiday Inn Express Southbank, which has received a $39 million grant for its clean energy design.

We hope you enjoy reading this edition, and we look forward to continuing to support Australian SMEs.
