Further upgrades for strategic RAAF base

Darwin’s RAAF Base Tindal is set for further redevelopment, with a range of opportunities for local suppliers over the next few years.

While the Stage 6 upgrade project is yet to get final approval, Lendlease has released some early works packages to help stimulate the Northern Territory economy.

Early works include such things as accommodation, amenities, electrical infrastructure and access roads.

ICN NT consultant Daniel McCormick said that once the expressions of interest are evaluated and shortlisted companies are invited to tender, ICN will publish the businesses that are tendering.

“It is while they are tendering that is the best opportunity for a small business to get involved and get written into the tender,” he said.

Daniel said the current packages are only about 10 per cent of what will eventually be available. Works are expected to be completed by 2027.

“Just like the previous stage of Tindal, this phase will end and there may be another one. It is strategic piece of defence infrastructure that will likely have continuous upgrades for a long time,” he said.

Stage 6 is worth roughly $1b in infrastructure and facilities over the next 8 years. The upgrade was included in the Defence White Paper, released in 2016.

“There will be future briefings as packages are released,” Daniel said, encouraging interested suppliers to register for general updates on the project’s Gateway page.
