Townsville flood recovery

As businesses and households in Townsville continue to count the cost of the devastating floods in February, local suppliers are being encouraged to get involved in recovery work.

The Townsville Local Content Committee, which was formed after the local floods, has engaged with ICN Queensland to develop a portal on ICN Gateway dedicated to rebuilding the town.

Committee Chair and RDA CEO Glenys Schuntner said the committee has been working hard behind the scenes to promote opportunities for local content to be used in the recovery efforts over the next 12 months.

“The ICN Gateway provides an excellent opportunity to register for flood recovery work, as well as other project opportunities in the region,” Ms Schuntner said.

“We are encouraging local construction-related businesses and suppliers to register on the ICN Gateway website and to register their interest in the flood recovery work.”

About 30 local suppliers attended industry briefings in the first week of June to find out more about local opportunities, how to create a company profile and register their interest in supply opportunities.

Local companies can register their interest in relevant work packages on the ICN Gateway portal. More than 50 product and services packages are available, ranging from air-conditioning, to painting, plant and equipment hire, windows, demolition services, electrical services and more.

ICN Queensland Consultant, Jason Manttan said ICN Queensland would use the EOIs to prepare a report promoting local businesses interested in supporting the flood recovery effort. This report will be publicly accessible on the portal and will be periodically updated where required.

“The project partners are committed to creating sustainable employment and economic development opportunities for local and Indigenous suppliers by maximising their opportunities to participate in the Townsville flood recovery effort,” Jason said,

“Registration is no guarantee of work, but potential clients, including insurance companies, construction companies and the local community will be able to see what local companies have demonstrated capability and capacity.

“It’s important that interested business have an up-to-date company profile on Gateway.
